Ramiro Rencurrell
Magna Life Settlements, Inc.

 

Ramiro Rencurrell is the President of Magna Life Settlements, Inc a Florida domiciled and licensed life settlement provider. Before engaging in his role as President of Magna Mr. Rencurrell was he Vice President of Foreign Operations for BMI Financial Group, inc. BMI Financial Group is a holding company of various insurance carriers in the US and abroad. Mr. Rencurrell has held various positions with in the Life and Health Insurance industry ranging from administrative, actuarial, treasury, financial management, reinsurance, marketing, and sales. Mr. Rencurrell has obtained a bachelors and a MBA from Florida International University. He is also a member of NAIFA and a board member of LISA.


Jon Mendelsohn
Ashar Group, LLC

Jon B. Mendelsohn serves as President and CEO of Ashar Group, LLC, a nationally licensed life settlement broker headquartered in Orlando, Florida. Their firm focuses on building relationships with and serving as the secondary market resource for with broker dealers, insurance brokerages, and marketing organizations. He became active in the Life Settlement industry when the market transitioned to an institutionally driven market. He has spoken nationally at numerous financial services conferences and is available to provide continuing education for both financial advisors, CPAs, and attorneys nationally.
Jon is fortunate to work with many of the nation’s leading wealth management firms, attorneys, and financial planning advisors. Born in Baltimore, MD, Jon and his family moved to Central Florida, where he attended the University of Florida to earn two bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Marketing and a Master Degree in Education. Jon is proud to be a member of The International Forum, the 21st Services Customer Advisory Board, the Tzedakah Society of Central Florida. and on the Board of Directors for the CBC of Seminole County, an organization dedicated to the private placement of neglected and abused children in the foster care system. His firm is an active supporter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) after his younger twin sisters have lived with this challenge for the last 7 years.
 


Michael Leibowitz
Invescor, Ltd.

Building upon ground floor experience working as a general manager for a major insurer to establishing an insurance brokerage serving agents nationwide and now practicing as an industry innovator in life settlements, Mike Leibowitz has a 29-year record of progressive success in an intensely competitive field. In 1980, Mike started in life insurance as an agent with New York Life. He later founded MAL Associates, a life insurance agency based in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Reflecting its rapid growth, MAL Associates became Invescor, Ltd.  In 2003, Mike began developing an operational and technological platform for life settlements. He became the architect of LifeSettleWare®, Invescor’s proprietary software that provides broker-dealers, insurance companies, and financial advisory firms and with fully transparent, fully disclosed, instantaneous status reporting on their life settlement cases. Now exclusively focused on life settlement back office and brokerage services utilizing LifeSettleWare® technology, Invescor Ltd. has processed more than 1,500 life settlement transactions with an aggregate face value exceeding $2.9 billion.
 


Russel Dorsett
Select Life Settlement Corporation

J. Russel Dorsett, CLU has been actively engaged in the life settlement business since October of 2005, when, along with his partner Steve Shorrock, he co-founded Select Life Settlement Corporation to act as a life settlement broker. Prior to that, he spent almost a year as a consultant studying the emerging secondary market for life insurance polices. Select Life Settlement Corporation has been a member of LISA since 2005, and both Steve and Russel have been very actively involved with the association and participated in working groups on a number of important issues. Russel has a wealth of experience in the life insurance industry, having served in virtually every role from life insurance agent to life company CEO and Director, both domestically and overseas. He also has a background as a consultant with extensive experience in both domestic and international regulatory issues, and has been a featured speaker at insurance and financial services conferences and conventions all over the globe. Russel is a member of the Board of Directors of LISA has served as a senior executive and/or board member for a number of major companies, including Philadelphia Life, Southwestern Life, Great Southern, Bankers Life and Casualty of New York, AIG, AIA Superannuation Company, and AIA Australia, Ltd. He is currently Co-Managing Director of Select Life Settlement Corporation and a Director of Veris Settlement Partners, with offices in Northport New York, Rockville, Maryland, and Houston, Texas. Russel is a graduate of the University of Texas and has been a Chartered Life Underwriter since 1973.
 


Mike Fasano
Fasano Associates

Michael Fasano is founder and President of Fasano Associates, a leading underwriting firm providing life expectancy estimates to the life settlement industry. For the past two years he has served as a Board Member of LISA. He also is a member of the Life Settlement Institute. Prior to founding Fasano Associates, he served as President of Trans-General Life Insurance Company. He is a graduate of Northwestern University, and received his Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He also is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute. He currently serves on the Board of Visitors for Northwestern University’s College of Arts & Sciences. He is a frequent industry speaker and has published articles in Best’s Review, National Underwriter and Pensions & Investments.

Jule Rousseau
Herrick Feinstein, LLP

Jule Rousseau and his colleagues have developed an expertise in the life settlement business and with premium finance structures used in the purchase of life insurance. The firm represents clients in all facets of this business—policyholders, lenders, life settlement brokers and providers and hedge funds providing capital to the industry.
Jule advises clients on regulatory matters, particularly in the areas of compliance, licensing and market conduct, both in connection with life settlement business and in general areas of life, accident and health, and property and casualty. Our clients often rely on us to meet with state insurance departments around the country to deal with regulatory compliance issues. Jule has worked extensively with insurance departments in Texas, Georgia and Florida on behalf of insurers victimized by fraudulent insurance brokers. He has also been involved in projects concerning licensing issues in all fifty states; advising domestic, European and Asian insurers with respect to regulatory issues that affect their US operations. His practice also involves advising clients with respect to reinsurance, the wording of those contracts, and all matters relating to insurance policies, including wording and interpretation. He represents the National Conference of Insurance Legislators, a non-profit group dedicated to education and sharing ideas between legislators across the country. He also has represented the New York Insurance Department in its review and approval of the Lloyd’s of London scheme to create Equitas as the run-off reinsurer of old years’ liabilities.
 


Jim Maxson
Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP

James W. Maxson is Of Counsel in the firm’s Insurance and Reinsurance group. Mr. Maxson’s areas of expertise include life settlements, mergers and acquisitions, securities and regulatory issues.
Mr. Maxson is Co-Chair of the firm’s Life Settlements group and his practice focuses on all aspects of the life settlement industry. He has performed extensive work in the areas of licensing, regulatory compliance, fund structuring, and policy acquisitions.
Mr. Maxson worked for four years as the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Acting Chief Operating Officer of a leading life settlement provider company where he was responsible for all compliance and legal matters, including interpretation of legislative and regulatory requirements and compliance with securities law. Mr. Maxson was previously a senior associate at a large international law firm where he practiced in the areas of securities and mergers and acquisitions. He also clerked for the Honorable Alice M. Batchelder on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Mr. Maxson is a frequent presenter on topics related to the life settlement industry. He is also active with the Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA), the oldest and largest association representing the life settlement industry, and is a member of LISA’s Legal Committee.
 


Zohar Elhanani
Legacy Benefits, LLC

Zohar has broad and diverse experience in Operations Management, Business and Corporate Development in a variety of growth industries. Prior to joining Legacy Benefits, Zohar served as Executive Vice President of Sales & Operations for RealTimeImage, Inc., a medical imaging technology company which was later acquired by IDX Systems Corporation. Following this acquisition in July 2005, Zohar joined IDX as the Managing Director of the newly acquired business. Zohar subsequently played an key role in GE Healthcare’s acquisition of IDX. Before his involvement with RealTimeImage and IDX, Zohar was a Director of Business Development for Scitex Corporation, (NASDAQ: SCIX), a global leader in digital imaging solutions for the graphic arts industry, where he evaluated business and corporate development opportunities and implemented M&A transactions in line with the company's corporate strategy. In addition, Mr. Elhanani was formerly an Associate with Giza Venture Capital Fund where he managed investments in the IT, Enterprise Software and Communications sectors.
Zohar holds an MBA from Solvay Business School in Brussels, Belgium from which he graduated Summa Cum Laude as well as dual undergraduate degrees in Law and Economics from Tel Aviv University in Israel.
 


Steven Sabes
GWG Life Settlements

Mr. Sabes has been an owner and operator of three private specialty finance companies since 1999: GWG Life, MedFinance, and Opportunity Finance. GWG Life is a participant in the secondary market for life insurance policies as a purchaser of policies, policy broker, and bridge loan financier. MedFinance purchases receivables of from medical providers. Opportunity Finance provided commercial trade loans to medium-sized businesses. Mr. Sabes has served on the board of directors for SpeciGen, a biotech company, and STEN Corp., a publicly traded finance company. Prior to his activities in the finance industry, Mr. Sabes conducted pharmaceutical research as a Senior Scientist at Shionogi BioResearch in Boston. Mr. Sabes has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. degree from The Colorado College.
